ONE DAY OTDR FIBRE TESTING AND FAULT FINDING COURSE: |
*****HOW TO TEST AND CERTIFY FIBRE USING AN OTDR & IOLM AS PART OF THE STEPS TO BECOME A FIBER INSTALLATION ENGINEER*****
The purpose of this course is to meet the wide ranging
needs of the communications cabling industry which is part of the communication technologies sector.
The Optical Time Domain Reflectometer. OTDR is a device that is able to look at the whole length of a fibre optic cable that has been installed. It can individually identify connectors,
splices and any individual item on a fibre which may cause a loss or reduction in signal.
To ensure that the transmission of telecommunications services using light will work reliably. Fibre to the home, cabinet, business or building cabling infrastructures,
are built to detailed specifications and quality standards.
Because of this. An otdr is used to certify that a fibre optic link had been install up to standard or to find faults that are difficult to identify and locate.
The training programme is designed for those that need to understand and be able to carry out these and other basic tests safely.
Using the appropriate equipment and best practices.
THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR:-
Engineers who need to acquire or refresh otdr skills, and engineers who want to upskill their abilities to take on a more specific
testing role within the industry. This is also suitable for managers who need to understand the latest fibre optic technology. Including:-
- ELECTRICIANS CARRYING OUT WORKS IN SMALL NETWORKS SO THEY CAN OTDR TEST WHAT THEY HAVE INSTALLED.
- THOSE FITTING WIRING WITHIN WIND TURBINES SO THAT THEY CAN OTDR TEST WHAT THEY HAVE INSTALLED.
- THOSE WORKING ON SMALL NETWORKS WITHIN A COMPANY THAT NEED TO OTDR TEST FIBRE LINKS.
- THOSE INSTALLING FIBRE OPTIC CABLING, AS DIY PROJECTS (RURAL COMMUNITY DIY) TO OTDR TEST WHAT HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
- THOSE BUILDING OUT NEW GPON NETWORKS THAT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO USE AN OTDR.
PURP0OSE OF THIS COURSE.
This course is practically based one day course, focused on using only the otdr. This course teaches the learners how to get the best out of an otdr
by acquiring key otdr testing skills. Using short fibre links, long lengths of fibre through optical splitters as pon networks are built today.
As a result learners build an ability to interpret fibre faults such as bends, bad splices, poor connectors and components. Which is a far greater
capability than just certifying a fibre link with using an otdr.
ESSENTIAL THEORY CONTENT:-
- Safety general for training location dealing with fibre testing activities.
- Testing. Why do we test, What are we testing for, Client specifications and requirements, Link certification, Handover documents and test reports.
- Understand return Loss testing – does the fibre link have too many reflections?.
- OTDR Introduction, how they work basic,
- OTDR specifications and capabilities, Basic performance, Pulse width and Dynamic range.
- OTDR for commissioning fibre links and networks – generate test results to certify and handover.
- OTDR for Fault finding fibre links and networks – find a break in a fibre, a bend or a bad connector.
- OTDR testing a passive optical network.
When you are with us you will work with qualified instructors that have worked in the industry doing the job they are teaching you to do. They will teach you in as realistic
a work environment as can be.
Our centre has been put together with a practical working area, designed to ensure you gain the maximum benefit from this course.
PRACTICAL HANDS ON TRAINING
- Using OTDR Functions.
- Measuring reflectance using the OTDR.
- Certifying a fibre link with the OTDR.
- OTDR for Fault finding fibre links and networks – find a break in a fibre, a bend or a bad connector.
- OTDR testing a passive optical network.
- Bare fibre testing – testing fibre on drums of cable.
- Generating test results for reports.
